Cath Kidston’s The Shopper is the perfect everyday bag for your essentials, shopping needs and more
Cath Kidston introduces a new bag silhouette and here’s what makes it so special.
For most fashion brands, the idea behind new bag launches come from rough, conceptual sketches by designers. But for Cath Kidston, all products are born from prints—think months of creative hustling by a team of designers to conjure magic out of paint and ink. This isn’t surprising, given the brand’s signature print-emblazoned offerings. This time around, the idea for the new Shopper bag came from an epiphany, after the team discovered a wonderful fabric that could very well elevate the functionality of shopping bags.
Cue: Tyvek, a paper-like fabric that is lightweight, extremely durable, recyclable and water-resistant. The fabric’s creases and folds were reminiscent of vintage coloured paintings and time-weathered cracks of antique glazed upholstery—a material that develops a unique character with time.
Fast forward to this season, Cath Kidston has launched a limited-edition range featuring floral prints and heritage stripes from the brand’s archive. If you’re a sucker for anything floral and punchy, three botanical prints of The Shopper will be right up your alley. The first—Morning Glory, hand-painted blue florals with trailing leaves inspired by antique chintz fabric; next is Pop Print, a classic floral motif inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s wardrobe; and Oak Leaf, with graphic leaves painted in shades of green and mustard yellow acorns for a lovely contrast.
Not big on florals? Take your pick from classic prints of bold houndstooth and snazzy stripes in various colourways. The former is available in classic English mustard and bottle green, while the latter comes in postbox red, a tribute to Cath Kidston’s heritage where the brand’s parcels were sent out in red and white livery striped packaging.
In case you were wondering about our abovementioned claims about the fabric’s superior quality, here’s what you need to know: The Shopper is super strong and full recyclable (in years to come, given its strength). Give it a wipe down every now and then to keep it in spick and span condition.
