Cath Kidston collaborate with Roald Dahl’s Matilda to create a limited-edition, hand-painted collection that celebrates imagination

Inspired by one of Cath Kidston’s most-loved literary characters, and her commitment to kindness and unquenchable love of learning, the brand’s limited-edition prints reflect Roald Dahl’s Matilda’s fierce spirit and strength, with bold and loose lines, hand-painting and blocks of strong colour. Reflective of how Matilda connects people through stories, each print has a narrative all its own, grown from a favourite quote from the book which can be found in a range of products across multiple categories.
In a season where Cath Kidston anchor their creative in the importance of the arts, Roald Dahl’s Matilda inspired the brands print team through her story of liberation through imagination. Her unwavering sense of right and wrong also acted as a muse for their prints.
For pieces such as the new soft waist midi dress for adults and children’s ready to wear, a unique floral print was hand-drawn especially for the collaboration. Cath Kidston’s print team brought to life the explosion of colour and exploration in Matilda’s imagination as the ‘words went off like fireworks’.
Through her books, Matilda travelled the world whilst sitting in her little room. Cath Kidston’s New Worlds print is a dreamscape steeped in detail, showcasing Matilda’s liberation through imagination which brings the collections backpacks and pajamas to life.
“Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous.” was the quote that inspired the Be Outrageous print, depicting key moments from Matilda that have lived in the hearts and minds of generations. All in a cheerfully bold, optimistic palette, a representation of Matilda’s character and to be enjoyed through the collaborations homeware items.

I have always loved Quentins Blakes illustrations and it was an absolute honour to create prints with them and for us to draw alongside this absolute legend. I believe our collection really tells Matilda’s story beautifully and I am excited to show you.”
